How to get a 5-Year Visa for Vietnam

To apply for a Vietnam 5-year visa, please make sure to carefully adhere to the following three (03) steps:

The initial step involves getting all the necessary documents ready.

The necessary paperwork for obtaining a Vietnam 5-year visa exemption varies depending on the nature of the applications being made.

Vietnamese living abroad; and Individuals who are either spouses or offspring of Vietnamese citizens living abroad or citizens of Vietnam.

For Vietnamese living abroad:

In order to be considered for a 5-year visa exemption for overseas Vietnamese, it is necessary for the applicant to have certain documents prepared.

  1. Fill out the application form for a 5-year Vietnam visa exemption here and print it on a Letter-sized paper with a barcode included.
  2. A valid passport, an equivalent document, or a residence permit issued by a competent authority in the country of residence, must be valid for a minimum of six months from the date of arrival in Vietnam.
  3. Two recent photographs were captured featuring a white background, a serious expression, a hatless head, and without any colored glasses.
  4. Either one certified copy or a copy that is attached to the original must be provided from the following documents:
    • birth certificate;
    • Vietnamese citizenship certification
    • the choice to relinquish Vietnamese citizenship;
    • loss of Vietnamese citizenship certificate
    • Vietnamese travel document (valid or expired)
    • Identification document (legitimate or illegitimate)
    • newest voter identification card; most recent voter registration card
    • An official document containing information about a family’s members.
    • If the individual can provide official documents from credible international authorities that demonstrate their original Vietnamese citizenship or Vietnamese heritage, they will be considered valid.

If the documents listed at (4) are not available, alternative materials may be submitted.

  • A warranty provided by a foreign-based Vietnamese organization representing residents of that specific country.

For non-native partners and children of Vietnamese residents or citizens abroad:

In order to qualify for a five-year visa exemption for spouses and children of overseas Vietnamese or Vietnamese citizens in Vietnam, applicants must gather the necessary documentation.

    1. A form for a 5-year visa exemption for Vietnam can be obtained by downloading and completing the Applicant Form NA09 if you are in Vietnam. However, if you are in a country other than Vietnam, the form needs to be prepared as described above.
    2. A foreign passport must remain valid for a minimum of six months from the date of entry into Vietnam.
    3. Two recently captured photographs feature a person with a plain background, serious expression, and no accessories or tinted eyewear.
    4. Please provide one of the following papers which demonstrate the connection between Vietnamese overseas/Vietnamese citizens and their spouses/partners/children, along with original copies.

  • Proof of familial relationship between individuals and their parents and children;
  • Additional eligible documents according to the laws of Vietnam.

  • Embassies and consulates representing Vietnam abroad (refer here for their contact information);
  • If you are located in Vietnam, the Ministry of Public Security oversees the Vietnam Immigration Department.
